The golden rules
- Last on, first off — put jewelry on after lotion, perfume and hairspray.
- Take pieces off to swim, shower, exercise, clean or sleep.
- Store each piece separately in its box or a soft pouch, away from humidity.
- Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners.
Metal pieces
- Put jewelry on last — after lotions, perfume and hair products.
- Remove before swimming, bathing, exercising or cleaning.
- Wipe gently with a soft, dry polishing cloth after wearing.
- Brass and copper naturally darken over time; a soft polishing cloth restores the shine, or let the patina develop.
- Store pieces separately in their box or a soft pouch to avoid scratches and tangles.
Beaded pieces
- Roll stretch bracelets on and off rather than pulling them wide.
- Keep away from water, lotions and perfume, which can weaken the cord.
- Store flat so the cord keeps its shape.
Resin & pressed flowers
- Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight — real flowers can soften in color over time.
- Avoid water, heat and chemicals, including hand sanitizer.
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth only.
Cord & leather
- Remove before showering or swimming; let it dry naturally if it gets wet.
- Keep leather away from oils and lotions.
- Store away from heat and direct sunlight.
Polymer clay
- Clay is lightweight but can chip — store separately from heavier pieces.
- Avoid water and perfumes; wipe with a dry cloth.
- Lay flat to store so the findings keep their shape.
Pearls
- Pearls are soft — put them on last and take them off first.
- Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth after wearing, then let dry.
- Store separately, never in plastic bags.
Natural crystal
- Natural stones can chip if knocked — store separately.
- Avoid harsh chemicals and prolonged sunlight, which can fade some stones.
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
